hardscape companiesThe term "hardscape" "hardscaping" or “hardscapes” is new to the paving construction and building industry of the United States. In general it means any "hard" site pavements as opposed to "soft" landscaped surfaces. Creative Hardscape Company, Inc. specializes in the consultation, design and construction of certain hardscape systems: brick, stone and concrete interlocking unit pavers, permeable unit pavement retaining walls and site masonry. These systems are also known in our industry as "segmental pavements" “unit pavements” or "block pavers". Note our business is in the industry of installing "unit pavements" (brick, stone, concrete pavers) and not that of anything "poured" (asphalt or concrete). We also are installers of block retaining walls and site masonry. The majority of our business is in the installation of unit pavements aka "pavers".

Segmental pavements come in a variety of materials and patterns. For years, brick, stone and concrete unit pavers have been used in many applications throughout the world and for thousands of years. From airport taxi, driveways, backyard patios to Roman Roads or the Historic Road of Sar-Tangeh. Hardscape Unit pavements are used both for their interlocking and strength capabilities and for their aesthetic nature.
We offer our residential customers heated driveways or snowmelt systems.  Essentially, at the flick of a switch or by moisture and temerature sensors, your heated driveway, patio or walkway is melted and drained away from any hardscape surface.  Our very satisfied customers enjoy "sipping coffee" and watching the snow melt away from their heated driveway, walkway or porch.

Hardscape block retaining walls are used to retain the earth's soils in both engineering and decorative applications.  They can be seen "holding up" shopping centers and at private residences where the owner has decided to make the most of their land.
In addition to unit pavers and retaining walls, Creative Hardscape Company provides site masonry.  This includes masonry walls made of natural flag stone or clay brick and block, fire-pits, outdoor kitchens and all types of decorative outdoor living stone work.

Occasionally customers are concerned with ants and or weeds in the joints between interlocking brick, stone or concrete pavers. As with any hardscape surface that has a crack, seam or joint (cracks in concrete, joints between pavers, stone or expansion joints in poured concrete slabs) ants can and do become a problem. With interlocking hardscape paver systems, the sand at the bottom half of the paver is what causes lock up between the pavers, making it a durable system. (See ICPI Tech Spec #2 - Page 5). The sand in the joints between the top half of the pavers eventually washes out (with wind, rain, washing of the patio, driveway or walkway) and is replaced with fine granular dirt and debris from the air. This is actually preferred and we recommend customers allow this process to happen naturally over time. The particles that replace the lost sand actually compacts more than sand does, therefore naturally deterring weeds from taking root and ants from feeling so welcome. If an ant problem does occur, it is recommended that granular ant killer be swept into the joints between the hardscape pavers.

If weeds are a problem, keep in mind that the weeds are growing from seeds falling into the joints between the pavers, from wind or bird droppings. The weeds are usually not growing up from under the pavers. As mentioned above, once the top layer on sand between the paves is replaced with fine granular dirt and debris, the more compacted material will make weed problems less likely. Since the weeds are not growing up from below the pavers, the roots are small and therefore easily pulled out or controlled with a general herbicide or weed killer.
